This public engagement has now closed
Following an informal meeting, Powys Highways have provided the Town Council with three maps showing their proposals for parking restrictions in the town. This gives the Town Council and community a chance to consider the plans and give any feedback prior to a full formal public consultation on a possibly revised set of proposals.
The Town Council have collated their own comments, and are asking residents for their views to help inform the feedback they send to Highways. This public engagement within the town will take the form of online comment here, and an in-person opportunity. The latter will be hosted in the Town Hall on Saturday 18th February, 9.30-12, with A3 maps to browse and comment on (and cups of tea!). The proposals which subsequently go out for full public consultation could then be shaped by comment from the town, with the benefit of local knowledge.
The proposals are motivated in the main by the need to improve traffic flow in the town, particularly in relation to the difficulties for longer buses, and persistent parking on junctions and pinch points. Highways have long seen parking as a major problem in Montgomery, and issues faced by buses have prompted them to act by proposing restrictions. The Town Council is grateful that Highways are participating in a conversation with the town prior to imposing restrictions. The proposals take the form of double yellow lines in a variety of locations.
Please give your comments about the suggestions –where you think the proposed yellow lines are suitable or unsuitable, and why – as well as any alternative suggestions you have for where restrictions should be located or what form they should take. Feel free to include general comments about the scheme overall and the situation in town with regards to traffic flow, as well as specific comments regarding what you see on the individual maps.
You can't beat local knowledge!
